A refrigerated body in standard trim with one addition — a PVC strip curtain hangs in the rear opening. It earns its keep where the doors are opened twenty times a shift: the strips part to let someone through with a box and close again at once, so the cold does not spill out and the unit does not run for nothing. The body wall is a 100 mm sandwich panel; an Elinge C4 unit over the cab holds the temperature. A 5,200 mm body on a Japanese HINO 300 delivery chassis.
FAQ about the HINO 300 reefer with a strip curtain
Doors close the opening while the truck is moving. The curtain works while it stands at a stop: the strips part to let someone through with a box and close again straight away. On a twenty-drop route the doors are open for many minutes in total — without a curtain warm air walks in during that time, and the unit then has to push it back out.
Temperature margin. The thicker the panel, the slower the body takes on outside heat and the less often the unit runs. You pay for it in volume: a hundred-millimetre wall costs ten centimetres on each side. For ice cream and deep freeze that is a fair trade; for chilled dairy a thinner panel is enough.
Yes. It mounts to the top beam of the rear opening and does not affect the body structure. Strips are cut to the height of the opening and hung with an overlap; a worn strip is replaced one at a time, not the whole curtain.
Up there it costs no load volume: the condenser sits on the front wall above the cab, the evaporator goes under the ceiling inside. There is nowhere to put an underslung unit on a delivery truck — under the frame it is crowded with the tank, batteries and spare wheel.
