A rare combination: reefer on an all-wheel-drive chassis. A 4WD badge on the front wing, a driven front axle and raised ground clearance — a vehicle for routes where the tarmac ends: farms, shift settlements, winter approaches to village shops. The refrigeration unit Elinge C1T sits above the cab in the “Heat” version — it both cools and heats. The body is lined with galvanised sheet inside, the rear doors are hinged with a folding ladder. An ordinary category B licence is enough.
For the same reason a milk tanker or a bread van needs it out of town: the route does not end where the tarmac does. Farms, shift settlements, village shops, winter approaches packed with snow — an ordinary delivery GAZelle gets stuck there, and towing a loaded refrigerated body is awkward and expensive. All-wheel drive costs less than one ruined run with spoiled cargo.
No, category B. The gross weight of the GAZelle Business is 3,500 kg and all-wheel drive does not change it. For a carrier that matters: a driver with an ordinary licence is easier and cheaper to find than one with category C. The chassis specifications are on the page GAZelle Business.
Down to −20 °C. The Elinge C1T unit is rated for a body of up to 8 m³ in the sub-zero duty and up to 12 m³ at 0 °C — ample for a 1.5-tonner. The letter “T” marks the “Heat” version: in winter the same unit warms the body so cargo that must not freeze does not.
With galvanised sheet — you can see it in the photo with the rear doors open. It washes down, does not absorb odours and survives knocks from crates and roll cages, and on a dirt road the body is shaken far harder than in town.
At stops with no dock you still have to get into the body. On a GAZelle the floor does not sit as high as on a medium-duty truck, but with a crate in your hands the difference is felt. The ladder folds against the rear bar and does not get in the way when reversing.
Yes, the body and the unit do not depend on the drivetrain. On a rear-wheel-drive GAZelle Business we fit the same reefer — a 3,200 mm body on the 2,900 mm wheelbase, a 4,200 mm body on the 3,500 mm one. All-wheel drive is added when traction matters, not volume.
