Dry-freight van on a JAC N120 chassis with a tail lift

category C6,200 mm bodyDhollandia tail lift
▣ inside ≈ 36.9 m³⚖ payload 7,690 kg

A dry-freight body on a JAC N120 chassis. The body is 6,200 × 2,500 × 2,500 mm, about 36.9 m³ inside with a 25 mm panel. A Dhollandia tail lift and hinged doors across the full width of the opening at the rear. Galvanised sheet lining inside, reflective corner markers around the body.

The JAC N120 is a Chinese medium-duty truck with an ISF3.8 diesel and a payload of 7,690 kg. A 6.2-metre body with a tail lift is bought for furniture, appliances and palletised goods: volume and unloading matter more than speed.

More about the design on the page dry-freight bodies. We build the same body as an insulated version too — see insulated vans.

How this body is built

The project is based on a JAC N120 (JAC Motors, China) chassis. The engine is ISF3.8S5168 diesel, 3.7 l, 166 hp, Euro 5. Gross weight 11,980 kg, so the driver needs a category C licence.

Body type — dry-freight (non-insulated) body, external dimensions 6,200 × 2,500 × 2,500 mm. That leaves 6,150 × 2,450 × 2,450 mm, 25 mm panel inside: the panel thickness is subtracted on every side, floor and ceiling included. Usable volume is ≈ 36.9 m³ (6,150 × 2,450 × 2,450 mm), counted from the internal dimensions rather than by multiplying the external ones.

The interior lining is galvanised sheet. Doors: full-width rear swing doors with rod locks.

Fitted equipment: reflective contour tape, rear bar.

Why it is built this way

Walls and ceiling are lined with galvanised sheet — the factory standard for a van body: it shrugs off moisture, takes a pallet-corner knock and is replaced in sections rather than whole panels.

What is in the photos

  • The whole truck, front three-quarter view
  • The side of the body along its full length
  • The side from another angle, reflective corner markings
  • The Dhollandia tail lift folded
  • Control panel tail lift
  • The rear corner of the body: the opening trim and the lock

Who it suits

A dry van is about volume and protection rather than temperature: furniture, appliances, building materials, boxed goods, removals. The cargo is shut away from rain, dust and prying eyes. Usable volume here is ≈ 36.9 m³ (6,150 × 2,450 × 2,450 mm) — the block above estimates the load in pallets.

We will build the same — to your size and your chassis

This body is not a catalogue item but a project we actually built. We will make the same one to your dimensions: length, width and height are calculated for your cargo and the chassis payload, rather than fitting the cargo to a ready-made size.

We also fit it to your own chassis: bring the vehicle, we take the frame dimensions, build the body, mount it and hand it over with the conversion paperwork.

If you are still choosing a chassis, we have the same body on other bases as well: Foton Aumark (4.2 m), GAZelle Business 3302, HINO 300 (side opening), Iveco Daily 50C15. They differ in payload, frame length and licence category.

How many pallets fit

A standard 1,200 × 800 mm europallet, single tier, no restacking. Internal dimensions with a 50 mm laying allowance — a pallet will not go in dead tight.

The layout scheme is on the right: it shows how the rows sit and how much room is left.

FAQ

FAQ about the dry-freight van on a JAC N120

We are confirming the exact dimensions of this truck — the body is about six metres with 25 mm walls. Volume cannot be worked out from the external dimensions: the panel takes its thickness off each side, so the internal dimensions are 50 mm smaller than the external ones in every direction.
Payload depends on the chassis version, and the weight of the body is taken out of it. For boxed goods there is plenty; for dense cargo look at a 5-tonne chassis.
The leaves press against it and it closes the gap around the whole perimeter of the opening: no dust is drawn in and no rain gets through. On a dry van this is not about temperature but about keeping the boxes and packaging intact.
With galvanised sheet on the walls and ceiling. Reflective corner markings run around the body so the truck is visible from the side in the dark.
Category C: in this version the JAC N120 has a gross weight above the 3,500 kg threshold.
Yes, we fit both on request. It has to be decided before assembly: a side door changes how the side is reinforced, and a tail lift changes the rear of the frame.
