Dry-freight body on a Japanese HINO 300 delivery chassis: a 6,200 × 2,400 × 2,500 mm body giving about 35.4 m³ inside with 25 mm walls. A full side opening with double swing doors has been built into the right side, so loading works from the side as well as from the rear. Reflective corner markings run around the body, the inside is lined with galvanised sheet, and at the rear there are swing doors across the full width of the opening.

The HINO 300 is a Japanese delivery truck and the one we use most for bodies of 4 to 6 metres. A 6.2-metre body with a side opening is bought for furniture and boxed goods: a long item goes in from the side without backing the truck up to a dock.

About 35.4 m³. The external dimensions are 6,200 × 2,400 × 2,500 mm with 25 mm walls, so the inside measures 6,150 × 2,350 × 2,450 mm. You cannot simply multiply the external dimensions — the panel takes its thickness off each side.

Payload depends on the chassis version, and the weight of the body is taken out of it. For boxed goods there is plenty; for dense cargo look at a 5-tonne chassis.

The leaves press against it and it closes the gap around the whole perimeter of the opening: no dust is drawn in and no rain gets through. On a dry van this is not about temperature but about keeping the boxes and packaging intact.

With galvanised sheet on the walls and ceiling. Reflective corner markings run around the body so the truck is visible from the side in the dark.

Category C: in this version the HINO 300 has a gross weight above the 3,500 kg threshold.

A side door is an opening for a person carrying a box. The side opening here is two swing leaves the full height of the side: a pallet or a long load goes straight through. It has to be decided before assembly — an opening like this changes how the side is reinforced.
