4.2 m dry-freight van on a Foton Aumark chassis

category Cbody 4,200 mmside door3-tonne chassis
↔ body 4,200 × 2,100 × 2,200 mm▣ inside ≈ 18.3 m³

Dry-freight body on the Foton Aumark: a 4.2-metre body, a chassis payload of 3 tonnes and about 18.3 m³ inside. On the right-hand side there is side door — part of the load is taken off without opening the rear frame. Inside the body is lined with white clad steel: lighter than galvanised sheet and just as washable — the specification here is standard, and glass fibre has nothing to do with it. At the rear are hinged doors across the full width of the opening. The vehicle was shown at an exhibition in Astana.

The Foton Aumark is a medium-duty truck serviced by ordinary workshops in Kazakhstan: parts are available and repairs are cheap. Five tonnes of payload in a footprint that still fits city streets and most yards.

More about the design on the page dry-freight bodies. We build the same body as an insulated version too — see insulated vans.

How this body is built

The vehicle is built on a Foton Aumark (6514 badge on the cab) chassis.

This is a dry-freight (non-insulated) body; externally the body is 4,200 × 2,100 × 2,200 mm. That leaves 4,150 × 2,050 × 2,150 mm, 25 mm panel inside: the panel thickness is subtracted on every side, floor and ceiling included. Usable volume is ≈ 18.3 m³ (4,150 × 2,050 × 2,150 mm), counted from the internal dimensions rather than by multiplying the external ones.

The interior lining is white pre-painted steel. The floor is laminated plywood. Doors: full-width rear hinged doors.

Fitted equipment: reflective contour tape, rear bar.

Why it is built this way

Laminated transport plywood is lighter than metal, does not rattle under boxes and resists moisture thanks to its coating. A sensible floor for boxed cargo; daily trolley work calls for aluminium.

White clad metal is painted steel sheet with a polymer coating. In photos it is often taken for fibreglass: it looks just as light, but it is metal and costs less than FRP.

What is in the photos

  • The whole truck with the side door on the right
  • The right-hand side and the rear hinged doors
  • The Foton Aumark cab at the Astana show
  • The side-door catch and hinges close up
  • Rod latches the rear doors

Who it suits

A dry van is about volume and protection rather than temperature: furniture, appliances, building materials, boxed goods, removals. The cargo is shut away from rain, dust and prying eyes. Usable volume here is ≈ 18.3 m³ (4,150 × 2,050 × 2,150 mm) — the block above estimates the load in pallets.

We will build the same — to your size and your chassis

This body is not a catalogue item but a project we actually built. We will make the same one to your dimensions: length, width and height are calculated for your cargo and the chassis payload, rather than fitting the cargo to a ready-made size.

We also fit it to your own chassis: bring the vehicle, we take the frame dimensions, build the body, mount it and hand it over with the conversion paperwork.

If you are still choosing a chassis, we have the same body on other bases as well: GAZelle Business 3302, HINO 300 (side opening), Iveco Daily 50C15, JAC N120. They differ in payload, frame length and licence category.

How many pallets fit

A standard 1,200 × 800 mm europallet, single tier, no restacking. Internal dimensions with a 50 mm laying allowance — a pallet will not go in dead tight.

FAQ

FAQ — 4.2 m dry-freight body on a Foton Aumark

About 18.3 m³. The outer size is 4,200 × 2,100 × 2,200 mm and the wall is 25 mm, so inside it is 4,150 × 2,050 × 2,150 mm. Multiplying the outer dimensions does not work — the panel takes thickness off every side.
No, this is the standard specification. White is not always fibreglass: here the body is lined with white pre-painted steel — a smooth painted sheet, brighter than galvanised and just as washable. The premium spec is FRP inside and out, and it has a different texture.
So that part of the load can be taken out without opening the rear portal and moving everything else. On multi-drop work that saves minutes at every unloading.
The chassis payload is 3 tonnes, less the weight of the body. That is enough for carton freight; for dense loads look at the 5-tonne Aumark with the 5.2-metre body.
Category C: the Foton Aumark gross weight is above the 3,500 kg threshold.
In length, width and chassis: 4,200 × 2,100 against 5,200 × 2,200, and 3 tonnes against 5. This one also has a side door and white pre-painted steel lining instead of galvanised sheet.
