How this body is built

The body is built on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis.

Body type — insulated, sandwich panel, external dimensions 5,200 × 2,250 × 2,400 mm. That leaves 5,000 × 2,050 × 2,200 mm, 100 mm panel inside: the panel thickness is subtracted on every side, floor and ceiling included. Usable volume is ≈ 22.6 m³ (5,000 × 2,050 × 2,200 mm), counted from the internal dimensions rather than by multiplying the external ones.

The floor is chequered aluminium. Doors: rear barn doors + a side door.

Fitted equipment: reflective contour tape, folding ladder, rails for partitions.

Why it is built this way

Ribbed aluminium flooring is chosen where cargo moves on trolleys: the sheet takes no moisture, hoses down and does not delaminate under wheels. It is heavier than plywood but outlasts it severalfold.

A side door changes distribution logistics: at each stop you open it rather than the whole rear portal — less cold escapes and the truck can park tight against its neighbour.

Who it suits

An isothermal body does not produce cold — it slows heat exchange with the outside. Such a van is chosen for short runs and for cargo loaded already chilled: bread, confectionery, drinks, groceries. Usable volume here is ≈ 22.6 m³ (5,000 × 2,050 × 2,200 mm) — the block above estimates the load in pallets.

FAQ about the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter insulated van

It is the same sandwich-panel body, only without a refrigeration unit. An isothermal body makes no cold — it slows heat exchange with the outside, so cargo loaded chilled warms up slowly. A reefer creates and holds the temperature itself. If cooling is needed later, a unit is added to the body — the van itself does not have to be rebuilt.
External dimensions are 5,200 × 2,250 × 2,400 mm. Usable volume is counted from the internal dimensions: with a 100 mm panel that is 5,000 × 2,050 × 2,200 mm, about 22.6 m³. The internal volume is smaller by the panel thickness: here it is 100 mm, so 10 cm goes on each side.
The thicker the sandwich, the slower the body takes on heat. One hundred millimetres is the “cold” class of insulated body: it holds the loaded temperature through a full shift and accepts a refrigeration unit later without trouble. A 40–60 mm panel is chosen when maximum inside volume matters more than long temperature hold.

Yes, the body is designed to take a refrigeration unit later — no rebuild needed. With a 100 mm panel the unit reaches its setpoint faster and cycles less often.
On a route with frequent stops a side door saves time: orders go out through it without opening the whole rear, and less outside air gets in. On this vehicle the side door is a hinged one with an aluminium kick plate at the bottom — people step on it and it takes the wear.
It does not rot, does not absorb moisture and is not harmed by washing, while the chequer pattern keeps pallets and boxes from sliding. For an insulated body it is also hygiene: the floor washes down under pressure and dries quickly.
