Refrigerated body on a Kia

The KIA Bongo III (K2500) is 3,500 kg gross, category B: any driver with an ordinary licence can take the wheel. With a 100 mm panel the body gives 7.6–8.8 m³, that is three or four europallets. For more volume there is the K4000: 10.0 m³ and four europallets, also category B.

Thickness

What determines panel thickness

Thickness is worked out not from the type of body but from the temperature it has to hold and the heat outside.

COND refrigerated bodies on Kia chassis — what has been built

Below are refrigerated bodies on Kia chassis built at the COND plant. Chassis, unit and volume are taken from each vehicle's own card; full specifications and photographs are on the project page.

Units already fitted on Kia: Carrier CITIMAX 280, Carrier Xarios 350, Elinge C2T. The model is chosen by body volume and temperature range rather than by chassis make: what decides is the cubic capacity and the temperature required at +40 °C outside.

FAQ

FAQ

Body length is set by the free length of the frame behind the cab, not by the volume wanted. The exact sizes of the bodies built are in the table above, and each vehicle has its own page with full specifications.
For chilling at 0…+6 °C a 50 mm panel is enough, for freezing to −18 °C 80 mm is needed, and for freezing at +40 °C outside — 100 mm. The panel takes thickness off every side, floor and ceiling included, so at 100 mm the usable volume is noticeably smaller.
The units fitted on the vehicles we have built on this brand: Carrier CITIMAX 280, Carrier Xarios 350, Elinge C2T. The model is chosen by body volume and temperature range, not by the make of the chassis.
Yes. The chassis is brought to Almaty, the body is built for it and mounted on a subframe. The chassis factory warranty stays intact and the change of design is documented.
From 14 days. The lead time depends on body volume, panel thickness and whether the refrigeration unit is in stock. The exact date is given on request, once the body dimensions and the unit model are settled.
Yes. Fitting a body and refrigeration equipment does not void the factory warranty on the chassis. A change of construction is documented; the procedure is described on the vehicle conversion page. vehicle conversion.
The vehicles built on Kia are rated at −20 to +12 °C. The lower limit is set not by the chassis make but by the pair “panel thickness + unit”: freezing to −18 °C needs an 80 mm panel, and holding it at +40 °C outside needs 100 mm.
