About the brand

GAZ: where the truck comes from and why it suits an ice-cream body

Country of manufacture and assembly in Kazakhstan

GAZ is the Gorky Automobile Plant in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia. The GAZelle Business is the updated version of the classic GAZelle, in production since 2010. These trucks do not only reach Kazakhstan as imports: since 2019 GAZ vehicles have been assembled in Semey at the SemAZ plant — around thirty versions, including the GAZelle Business, GAZelle Next and GAZon Next. Local assembly means a Kazakhstani certificate of conformity, chassis available inside the country and spare parts through the dealer network rather than on order.

Category B — any driver can take the wheel

The GAZelle Business has a gross weight of 3,500 kg — exactly at the ceiling of category B. A driver with an ordinary licence gets in and drives: there is no need to find someone with category C. On city delivery rounds, where drivers change often, this decides the choice of chassis more often than payload does.

A petrol engine

UMZ A275 (Evotech 2.7), 106.8 hp, Euro 5 — petrol, not diesel. It starts in winter without a pre-heater, servicing is cheaper and almost any workshop in the country can repair it. Fuel consumption is higher than a diesel, but city routes are short and over a year the difference stays modest.

The body is not tied to this chassis

An ice-cream van is a body, not a whole vehicle. We fit the same compartment body with eutectic plates to JAC, Kia Bongo, Hyundai, Isuzu, Foton and FAW — sized for the volume and number of compartments you need. There is one condition: the chassis is chosen for a body that has already been calculated, not the other way round.
