Freezer (eutectic) van on Hino

Two ice-cream vans have been built on the HINO 300 — one with a long body and one with a 4.2 m body, in a −33 °C mode. Specifications and photos are on the project pages in the table above.

A refrigerated truck chills the body on the road with a compressor. A eutectic van has its plates charged with cold in advance from a 380 V mains supply; during the trip they release cold without running a compressor — the temperature is steadier when the doors are opened often.

Fully freezing the plates from the mains takes about 8 hours, after which they hold cold for the whole working day of the delivery round. The cargo must arrive already frozen: the plates hold cold but do not freeze the goods.

Yes: the unit needs a three-phase 380 V supply at the overnight parking place; it will not start on 220 V. No power is needed during the trip.
