Registration entry for a van conversion

Van conversion: how to record the changes in the vehicle passport

What counts as a conversion, why the vehicle-passport entry is needed and which documents are usually required when fitting a new body.

Fitting a new body or refrigeration equipment is a modification of the vehicle's design. Under the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan such a change must be officially registered, otherwise problems may arise during inspection, arranging insurance or selling the vehicle.

What counts as a conversion

A conversion includes fitting a new body superstructure on a chassis (a refrigerator, an insulated or dry-freight van, a flatbed platform), installing refrigeration equipment, and any change to the vehicle's weight, dimensions or category compared with the factory data.

Why the vehicle-passport entry is needed

The vehicle passport must reflect the vehicle's actual specifications. If it lists one body type while another is actually fitted, this can be grounds for a failed inspection, questions when arranging comprehensive insurance, or problems at sale — the buyer and insurer rely precisely on the vehicle-passport data.

Which documents are usually needed

The general logic of the procedure in Kazakhstan is as follows:

The exact list of documents and the procedure may differ by region and change from time to time, so it's best to check the current list directly with the traffic police or the public service centre at the vehicle's place of registration.

How this works when ordering a body from COND

We are a manufacturer, not a middleman, so for every body we make we provide the manufacturer's documents required to register the design changes. This simplifies the procedure: you don't need to separately find someone to confirm the safety of the fitted body.

Tip

Handle the paperwork right after receiving the vehicle — the longer the body is used without the vehicle-passport entry, the greater the chance of questions at the scheduled inspection. If you're unsure which documents you need in your case, clarify it at the ordering stage; our manager will tell you what's required in your region.
