A marker lamp with a filament bulb and a white lens. White faces forward by regulation: the lamp shows oncoming traffic the width of the body.
On a van the outline lamps go at the top front corners of the body — where the box is wider than the cab and its edge is invisible in the dark. The lamp opens up so the bulb can be changed without removing it from the body.
