Elinge multi-temperature units: C4M, C4M-T, C5M, C5M-T series

An Elinge multi-temperature unit serves two compartments of one van that are insulated from each other and run in different modes: down to −20 °C in the first compartment and a higher mode in the second. The C4M and C5M series cool only; C4M-T and C5M-T cool and heat.

According to the manufacturer, the C4M-T is designed for a van of up to 14 m³ and the C5M-T for up to 24 m³. The unit consists of a condenser unit and two evaporators, one per compartment.

What a two-compartment unit is for

Other Elinge units are on the Elinge page; for a van with two modes see multi-temperature van.

COND project: a multi-temperature van on a GAZelle Next with an Elinge unit

Two vehicles in one batch for mixed distribution. GAZelle Next A21R35 chassis (long wheelbase, petrol with LPG), body 4,250 × 2,000 × 2,000 mm, 100 mm panels, inside 4,050 × 1,800 × 1,800 mm — 13.1 m³. The body is split into two compartments by an insulated partition with a double door, each compartment with its own evaporator; the Elinge unit sits above the cab. A side door on the right leads to the front compartment, swing doors with a fold-down ladder to the rear one. Floor — chequer-plate aluminium. Category B.

History of the solution

Elinge multi-temperature systems have been in service for more than ten years. According to the manufacturer, one of its partner companies has operated more than 100 such units since 2008; improvements based on that experience went into the series products.

In 2018 the manufacturer put the C4M-T (van up to 14 m³) and C5M-T (up to 24 m³) into series production: before sale the units passed tests in a climatic chamber and checks on vehicles of a pilot batch.

COND has built a multi-temperature body twice: on a GAZelle Next with an Elinge unit (a batch of two vehicles, 4,250 mm body) and on a GAZelle Next A21R23 with a Carrier Xarios 600 MT (3,200 mm body). Both are category B with 100 mm panels.

Frequently asked questions about Elinge multi-temperature units

What is an Elinge multi-temperature unit?
A refrigeration unit for two compartments of one van insulated from each other. The first compartment is held at up to −20 °C, the second at a higher mode; the range of the second compartment depends on the series (see the table above).
How do the series with the letter «T» differ?
The C4M-T and C5M-T cool and heat, the C4M and C5M only cool.
Which van suits the C4M-T and C5M-T?
According to the manufacturer, the C4M-T is designed for a van of up to 14 m³ and the C5M-T for up to 24 m³. Compartment volumes by series are in the table above. The van is divided into two compartments by an insulated partition.
How much does a multi-temperature unit cost?
The price depends on the series and on the size of the van and its compartments. We calculate it on request, after the body dimensions are agreed.
Does COND have a finished project on an Elinge unit?
Yes: a multi-temperature van on a GAZelle Next A21R35, a batch of two vehicles. Body 4,250 × 2,000 × 2,000 mm, 100 mm panels, 13.1 m³, two compartments with separate evaporators. Photos and video are above on this page.
