The SD5H11 is a compact compressor for light-duty refrigerated vans, bakery vans and ice-cream vans, as well as for cab air-conditioning systems. It suits refrigeration units by Carrier, Elinge, Thermo King and other units with a belt-driven open compressor. Versions differ in pulley (V-belt A or poly-V PV), head type and clutch voltage 12/24 V — confirm the unit configuration when ordering.
Important note on oil: a new compressor ships with shipping oil (factory preservation). When installing and charging the system, oil must be added per your refrigeration unit manual: the type and amount are set by the unit manufacturer (for R134a Sanden specifies its own SP-10 oil, for R404A POE oil is used). Sanden's factory method for vehicles with long hoses: oil amount (cm³) = [(refrigerant charge in grams × 0.06) + 66] ÷ 0.9, plus 30 cm³ per 3 m of hose and 33 cm³ as a safety margin. Oil circulation must stay within 3.3–8 % of the refrigerant mass: too much oil degrades heat transfer, too little destroys the compressor. Before start-up, release the nitrogen from the housing and turn the clutch pressure plate by hand 5–6 times to clear oil from the cylinders.
Manufacturer's installation recommendations: rotation is clockwise only (CW), pulley alignment within 1 mm, electromagnetic clutch air gap 0.4–0.8 mm (a gap above 1.3 mm stops the clutch engaging). Sanden belt tension: V-belt A — 55±2 kgf, poly-V PV6 — 90±2 kgf, PV8 — 120±2 kgf. Tightening torques: head bolts M8 — 34.3 N·m, M6 — 13.7 N·m, oil filler plug — 19.6 N·m, rotolock fitting 1"-14 — 36.3 N·m, clutch armature nut 1/2"-20 — 30.4 N·m. Mounting is ear mount only; the bracket is selected to match the chassis engine. When fitting into a system that has been in service, the oil amount is balanced per the unit manual; if the circuit is contaminated, flushing and replacing the receiver-drier are mandatory.
We supply genuine Sanden compressors in factory packaging, nitrogen-charged and with shipping oil — never disassembled, with no substituted components. The model, version number and oil charge are stated on the factory label on the housing.
No warranty is provided on the compressor. The compressor operates inside a refrigeration system whose condition we do not control: dirty oil, an incorrect refrigerant charge or lack of oil can destroy a sound compressor in a short time. That is why correct installation and charging per the unit's manual are decisive — this work is done by the installer. When installed at the COND workshop, we warrant the installation work.
